1. Acceptance
By accessing or using SurnameGuessr (“the Site”), you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.
2. Using the Site
SurnameGuessr is a daily geography game. You may use it for personal, non-commercial purposes. You agree not to:
- Attempt to manipulate scores, streaks, or leaderboard rankings through automated means or exploits
- Scrape or harvest game data, surnames, or user data from the Site
- Reverse-engineer or interfere with the Site’s operation
- Create multiple accounts to circumvent restrictions or gain unfair advantages
- Use the Site in any way that violates applicable law
3. Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account credentials. You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account. Notify us immediately if you suspect unauthorised access. We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms.
4. Premium subscriptions
Premium subscriptions are billed monthly via Stripe. You may cancel at any time; access to premium features continues until the end of the current billing period, after which it will not renew.
A free trial may be offered to new subscribers. Only one free trial per person is permitted. Creating multiple accounts to claim additional free trials is a violation of these terms.
We reserve the right to change premium pricing or feature availability with reasonable notice. Price changes will not apply to the current billing period already paid.
5. Intellectual property
The Site, its game mechanics, design, code, and curated surname dataset are owned by or licensed to SurnameGuessr. You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from any part of the Site without prior written permission.
6. Availability and changes
We aim to keep the Site available but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. We reserve the right to modify, suspend, or discontinue any part of the Site at any time. We are not liable for any loss resulting from downtime or changes to the service.
7. Disclaimers
The Site is provided “as is” without warranty of any kind. We make reasonable efforts to ensure the accuracy of surname origin data but cannot guarantee that every assignment is correct. Surname origins can be genuinely ambiguous.
SurnameGuessr is a game. It is not intended as an authoritative genealogical, anthropological, or linguistic reference.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law, SurnameGuessr is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the Site.
9. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the jurisdiction in which the operator is based. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of that jurisdiction.
